Bus fares

If you are over pension credit age  or over or are disabled you can get free travel on almost all buses but you have to apply for a pass from  East Sussex County Council.  You can apply at any East Sussex library, or your local district and borough office

Bus fares get more and more complicated

 


CASH FARES

 Cash fares bought on Brighton buses went up in April 2016.  Here are some examples:

 Lewes to Brighton  £3 single £5 return (£4.80 if you buy a scratch card from the tourit office or Martins.)

Lewes to Uckfield £3.20 single, £5.40 return

Lewes to Tunbridge Wells £4.70 single £6.50 return

 Network saver valid on all Brighton and Hove buses for a day £6.50. Also valid on Compass bus services in Lewes town.

 With an off peak day return from Lewes to Brighton on the train currently costing £4.90 even without a railcard, it will normally be cheaper to travel by train.

MOBILE PHONE TICKETS

 You will need to have the Brighton Buses app on your phone. Not valid on Compass bus

 KEY CARD TICKETS

 You will need a Brighton buses key card (not a Southern Railway one)

Key card tickets are valid on  Compass Bus services where appropriate.

 SCRATCHCARDS

 Nework saver scratchcards can be bought Lewes Tourist office, Martins in the High Street or Leicester Road shop.  They cost £4.80 ) and are available on all Brighton buses, even as far as Tunbridge Wells, Steyning or Eastbourne.  Simply scratch the date off when you want to use them.

They cannot be used on Compass Buses.  You can no longer buy them from the Post Office.

 Note that if you are standing in the High Street waiting for a bus it will normally be cheaper to nip into Martins or the Tourist Office to buy your ticket than buying it on the bus.

 DISCOVERY TICKETS

 These tickets are valid on almost any bus run by any company in Sussex, Surrey and Kent for one day. You can buy them on the bus (including Compass Bus)

 Adult Discovery - £8.50, Child Discovery - £7 (aged 5 - 15) Family Discovery - £16 (for 5 people with a minimum of 1 adult and a maximum of 2 adults). 

 LEWES DAY TICKET

 Valid on compass bus and brighton buses within Lewes Town,  £3 for any bus for one day.  £11 for one week.  Buy on the bus
