Hastings and St Leonards Walks

 

Hastings and St Leonards are wonderful places to explore on foot.  But poor publicity means that their delights are often hidden from the visitor.  Below you will find a selection of walks showing you the best of what the towns have to offer.

 Walking round St Leonards

Sea, street art, (including a Banksy)  fabulous regency architecture,grand art deco, aristocratic parkland, the rich, the poor, the trendy and all within a kilometre of St Leonards Station! 5.46 Km / 3.39 Miles, hilly.  Can be reduced to about 2.5 miles.

Or.... What? 

A Hastings Town and Country walk of 12km, 7.5 miles starting from Ore Station., Hastings Country Park,  the Old Town West Hill and Ore. A secret station, a nude beach, a miniature railway and a castle.  Can be reduced to a country walk of about 5 miles or a town walk of about 4 miles.

Civic Pride, Grey Owl and a Scandal in Bohemia

Wild woodlands, a classic park, a secret chine- this is the Hastings (and St Leonards) that most visitors don't see. Alexandra Park, St Helens Woods, Old Roar, Bohemia, Summerfields.  Plus a visit to the seaside to see the pier being reborn. 11.km, 7 miles starting from Hastings Station.  It is possible to shorten the walk to about 3 miles of largely urban walking

Ore and More

A very varied walk, exploring the urban and rural facets of North East Hastings, including the amazing Specked Wood, the panoramic views from North Seat, the countryside north of the Ridge, and the atmospheric ruins of the Old St Helens Church

Hastings Power Walk

For an 11km, 7 mile Hastings walk taking in Ore, the Old Town, West Hill, Alexandra Park,  Bohemia, Summerfields Woods and the Pier do the short version of Or.... What?   Towards the end of the walk take the optional diversion to see Grey Wolf's other house (instructions in the walk description) but continue along St James Road.  At the end cross the main road and turn right into Alexandra Park.  You will now be just before point 2 of Civic Pride, Grey Owl and a Scandal in Bohemia. Do the short version of this walk.

It is possible to Leave the Civic Pride walk at the pier to walkwest for about 500 metres, either along Bottle Alley or the upper promenade, to join the St Leonards Walk at point (1), Warrior Square.
