Although no ordinary service coaches now run through Lewes, that does not mean that it is not possible to travel by coach.
Your coach options are now National Express or Flixbus Both run regular services from Brighton to London stopping at Gatwick. National Express coaches run to the main coach station at London Victoria, by the railway station. Most Flixbus services to other places start from Victoria too, but the services from Brighton and the east side of the country terminate at Stratford, which cuts travel time by avoiding the trip through the south London suburbs. Stratford is a transport hub so this service can be handy if you want to visit east London or the east of the country.
However, for many people the best deal to save money is to get the train to Gatwick and then pick up a National Express of Flixbus coach from there. Coaches go from Gatwick to many parts of the country. You will miss out on the jams going in and out of London, but may get stuck in jams on the M25.
Coaches can be a good option where time is not an issue but cost is. However, do look at the cheaper rail option. Some companies offering slower services can be cheap. London Northwestern, in particular, serves London, Birmingham, Crewe and Liverpool. Advance tickets on the faster companies can be good value too.
EUROPE
There are coach services to Europe departing from London Victoria.
In theory you can take your non-electric bike on Flixbus services. You can book your bike at the same time as your ticket. But in practice it may be more difficult. Often all the bike spaces are shown as unavailable. in December 2025 no bike slots were shown to Paris in January or February 2026.
The fares can be low ( from £22 London to Paris) but the journey times are long (typically 9+ hours London to Paris)
